quality and reliability are the keys to the successful completion
of the flight. For these reasons, Alt-Terra operates the Leica RC-30
camera, with F.M.C. (Forward Motion Compensation) and automatic
exposure control. The Forward Motion Compensation feature moves
the film slightly as the shutter opens in order to virtually eliminate
image blur due to forward travel. The camera annotates all project
and position information ( including clients job name ) on each
negative, so film titling is no longer required. Another important
number to consider when dealing with a camera is the AWAR, or Area
Weighted Average Resolution. This figure represents the resolving
power and therefore clarity of the image, as measured by the USGS.
Many government contracts now require an AWAR of at least 90. Both
of our RC-30s meet this standard, one even having a best-in-the-region
AWAR of 114. |
Aircraft
Alt-Terra
currently owns and operates a Piper Navajo Chieftain and 2 Piper
Aztecs. Turbocharged engines enable us to fly high altitude photography
(up to 30,000 ft), and to reach distant projects quickly. Both planes
are equipped with extra long range fuel tanks to help us acquire
the most photography possible during clear photo days. Differentially
corrected G.P.S., along with the cameras navigation scope,
guides us along flight lines accurately and efficiently. The twin
engine design provides an extra measure of safety when flying over
cities, mountains, forests, and open water.

The
Versamat 1140 is Kodaks improved model with greater reliability,
designed to consistently yield flawless negatives. The new design
incorporates several improvements to increase dependability. Having
a processor and all the required photo inspection equipment here
in our own lab enables our clients to receive their projects within
24 hours of flight, and allows us to precisely control the developing
process.
